Where have I been?

I was just checking my blog and realized that I hadn't posted anything since late August.

I have been painting, just a bit and repainting a bit more.

Most of my time has been spent on family business.

Last year my Father passed away October 1st. and this year my Mother passed away September 25th. which also happens to be our wedding anniversary. The photo I have displayed is one of my Siblings which was taken around 1955.

Without the help of my Wife, my Daughters and my Siblings, this last year would have been devastating. Their emotional support has kept me going.

When I said I have been painting and repainting, it's true. Even though I get lost in my painting world, the recent events have been creeping in and distracting me from my work. Now that the dust has started to settle I will be able to get back to work. I look forward to posting my next painting.

I am the cute guy on the left.

Triptych News

The Triptych left Friday, August 28th at 3pm for it's new life in Mississauga (which is just west of Toronto). I have requested photos of the pieces after they have been re-stretched and hung for display.

Of all the work I have done, these 3 paintings will have the most exciting life. They will be hanging in the showroom of a large office automation supplier. Hundreds of people will pass by and view them everyday. Once I have some pictures of their new home I will post them on the blog. Please Note: This is not to say that all my other paintings hanging in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, etc. are not living fabulous lives in private collections. I appreciate their owners and the homes they have supplied for this work.

Size & Perspective

This will give you more of an idea of the size of the triptych.

I shot this this morning at 7am prior to starting to work on the detail work that has to be done.

As you can see it almost covers the entire end of our house. It has been a juggling act moving and working on each canvas because my work space is only 10'x10'.

Juan De Fuca Opus #1

The triptych is almost completed. It's overall size is 48"H x 15'W. It consists of 3 panels each being 48"H x 60"W. It has been in development since early March this year and was put on hold until July. I have still a number of hours of work left and will hopefully put the piece to bed within the week. I hope you enjoy the work. It has been difficult to photograph the piece due to it's size and the ever changing light in the studio.

The Smoke has Cleared, Now back to Work!

The Sooke Fine Art Show has come and gone. Again this year there was a fine crop of original Artwork from all over Vancouver Island.

The show was again well organised and the judges picked an excellent group. I was honoured to be amongst the group chosen for the show.

I did not sell the piece that was chosen, but I have to use my Good Fishing, Great Fishing analogy. Good Fishing, is when you get chosen, Great Fishing when you're chosen and Sell. This year it was Good Fishing.

The image in this post is the first panel (48"x60") of a triptych I have started. I am currently working on the second panel. As I proceed I will post each image and when it is complete I will post the entire piece. I hope you enjoy this study. It's great to get back to work!

Sooke Fine Art Show Update

Last weekend, we dropped off my two pieces for jury. They selected Peruvian Visitor, so now we wait and see what happens next. July 24th is the Artist Evening and I should be there for a couple of hours. The actual show is open to the public from July 25th to August 3rd. It is well worth the trip to see the variety and the quality of work being produced on Vancouver Island. The Sooke Fine Arts Show is the largest exhibition on Vancouver Island.

Yesterday I mentioned my old Blogspot to friends. My nephew the gifted and talented Matt Williams built it for me and did repairs to my old Calloway Framing Website. (which no longer exists) Unfortunately, I can't remember how to modify or update this site.

"The Space between my Ears", highlights my digital printmaking images. If you are interested in seeing these images I am including a link.

Thanks again to Matt for introducing me to Blogs and to my daughter Brie for helping me get this site up and running. Thanks to daughter Janna for letting me thank her sister.
