New Painting

For Vinnie Size 20" x 30" Medium Acrylic on Canvas

A Quick Update

Most of this summer has been spent in the garden, and less time in the studio. I have however just been to Victoria for a re-stocking mission. The studio is full of paint and canvas. I have been working on two smaller paintings, that are nearing completion. Over the next few months I will be back to my regular routine and painting from 8am. I look forward to presenting the new work and have also been working on a little video project which is nearing completion which I will gladly to share.

Sooke Fine Arts Show

The Sooke Fine Art Show has come and gone. I didn't find any red dots this year but a lot of other pieces sold. The quality of work was terrific. I have to congratulate the volunteers, the artists and the planners of the show once again. This year I thought I would show you some of my favourites from the exhibition. The work was so varied and really became a visual feast. Jeff Molloy (Mars Black) -The Good Book and the Blanket Box. Anne Boquist - Jasmine and Peppy's New Ride. Phoebe Dunbar - Birdseye Feast and Moonshell Janet Dwyer - Refuge #4 of 12 and Orb Weavers #4 of 12 Mark Heine - Earth Days and Parade Floret Krystyna Jervis - Nature Triptych Iris Nardini - Solo Muriel Sibley - Burden Marla Thirsk - Disconnect Tina Fyfe - Oil I hope you enjoy these links and the work you will see. Next year try and make it out to the show, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Toronto Visit

I recently visited Toronto and got the chance to see where my first tryptich was installed. Bill Norgate, the owner of the piece is planning to change the wall colour and raise the paintings up a bit higher. This will lessen the blocking of the paintings by the equipment in his showroom. The wall colour change will bring some more warmth into the showroom space by picking up a colour from the tryptich. I really enjoyed meeting with Bill and having a chance to provide a little input in the hanging of this piece. Thanks again to my brother Norm for arranging the meeting and the tremendous hospitality shown by Norm, Helen, their daughter Linda, and Clive and my sister Linda. Cheers to all our friends new and old!

Painting News

Good Afternoon, I thought I'd just give a quick update on the painting front. On Saturday, we took my Juan De Fuca Opus #2 into the Sooke Fine Art Show and now the 'jury is out'. By this weekend I will know if the piece is accepted. The other news is that I did something I rarely due. I'm turning into a picking old painter. Before submission I re-worked part of the central panel of the tryptich, this was okay because I hadn't signed it. On the other hand I re-worked Due East 8am and I had signed it. I kept looking at the original and finally yesterday I worked back into the piece. I rarely do this to a painting, when they are done, they are done. At least that's how I have worked for years. I guess it's not too late for an old dog to learn new tricks. I am also looking at two other pieces and may revise them as well. I think from now on I am not going to sign the paintings until I have lived with them for a while. That also means I won't post them as soo...
